How to Install and Activate Software

Download the software

Once you purchase the software, log into your SALT account and then go to "My Account --> My Downloads". The download link is listed but you can also download a trial version of the software (same file). Download the software to your desktop or to a download folder on your computer. The download folder is usually something you can configure in your Web browser preferences. 

Locate your product key

You should have received an email with your product key. If not, log into your SALT account and then go to "My Account --> My Downloads". You may need to click on the specific order number to view your product key.

Windows® Software

  • Install: Run the file you downloaded. To do this, either select the file from your browser or from the download folder. The setup process creates shortcuts on your desktop and in your Start menu. It also installs the SALT PDF Printer. Network Installation Instructions

  • Activate: The first time you run SALT, you will be asked to accept the license agreement and enter your product key. Activation is online. If there are problems activating your software, contact support for an offline activation key. You will be asked to provide your order number and the name of your computer (displayed in the activation dialogue box under the space to enter your product key).

  • Deactivate: Deactivate your software if you wish to activate it on a different computer. To do this, select "Deactivate" from the Help menu. Note that site licenses come with unlimited activations and do not need to be deactivated.

  • Uninstall: Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features. Select a program, and then click Uninstall.

Mac Software

  • Install: Open the file you downloaded. You will be asked if you want to move the program to the Applications folder. Network Installation Instructions

  • Activate: You will be asked to accept the license agreement and enter your product key. Activation is online. If there are problems activating your software, contact support for an offline activation key. You will be asked to provide your order number and the name of your computer (displayed in the activation dialogue box under the space to enter your product key).

  • Uninstall: To completely remove the SALT application, you have to delete three things:
    1. The application itself <SALT Program Name.app>
    2. The application support directory </Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/SALT Program Name>
    3. The preferences file </Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/ com.saltsoftware.saltprogram.plist>
