Subordination Index

The Subordination Index (SI) is a measure of syntactic complexity that produces a ratio of total number of clauses (main and subordinate) to the total number of c-units. The SI analysis counts clauses and provides a measure of clausal density. In this video course Mary-Beth Rolland, an SLP with 35 years of clinical experience, explains how to use SALT to score language samples for SI and how to interpret the results by comparing these samples with samples selected from the SALT reference databases. Although this lecture was recorded using SALT 2012, the information is relevant for any version of SALT.
