SALT 24 Software - CLINICAL LICENSE

SALT is clinical software for assessing language acquisition and disorders through the use of language samples. The software includes a transcription editor, standard reports, and reference databases for age and grade-matched comparisons.

SALT for Windows® and Mac computers. SALT was developed as Windows software. To provide a version of SALT which runs on Mac computers, we partnered with CodeWeavers, Inc. Using Code Weavers' CrossOver software, SALT for Windows is installed inside a virtual Windows environment. This version looks and runs a lot like any other Mac program although you may notice a slight delay when it starts up and you will notice a difference in the file system. But the best news is, there's no Windows license required; everything you need is included with the software.

Includes the SALT Reference Book as a PDF file accessed from the Help menu

The SALT Reference Book provides the conceptual background of language sample analysis, practical guidelines for using SALT, and extensive appendices for quick reference to all the database protocols, transcription conventions, special coding, and more. A PDF copy of this book (USA version) is included with the software.

Available for Immediate Download

What are the steps to using the software?

  1. Choose a sample type: SALT can analyze any clange samples, but if you want to compare to a reference database, you need to choose a sample type that matches our databases.
  2. Review the sampling protocol: Be sure you have the appropriate elicitation materials. Read and practice how to elicit the sample. The free online training includes elicitation examples.
  3. Collect and record the language sample: Using the appropriate protocol, collect and audio record your language sample.
  4. Transcribe the language sample: Use the editor built into SALT Software to type the sample vrbatim using SALT's coding conventions. There is help built into SALT, with explanations of all the transcript-entry conventions. The free online training, however, is the place to go to learn how to transcribe.
  5. Analyze and interpret the sample: Compare your transcript outcomes to a database of normative language samples. An individual may be matched on age, grade, gender, sampling context, and transcript length. Matched records are selected from the database and mean, range, and standard deviation statistics are given for many of the analysis variables. There is help built into SALT with descriptions of all the reports and all the variables. The free online training contains several courses focusing on analysis. Run the performance report, which generates customized text to cut and paste into your reports. Choose from a variety of other reports to provide further detail.
