Online Story Elicitation

Everything you need to elicit and record narrative stories!

Click here for a video showing how to use these programs in a virtual setting with Zoom.

Monolingual English / English-fluent (for grades P, K, 1, 2, 3)
Annual single-user subscription with unlimited uses: $59

Elicit story-retell samples using Frog, Where Are You? (Mayer, 1969), Pookins Gets Her Way (Lester, 1987), and A Porcupine Named Fluffy (Lester, 1986). "Eric" (animated character) provides directions. The story model is presented and the pages of the story are displayed for the student to retell the story. Record and save the student's story. Then either transcribe the sample yourself or send it to SALT's fee-based transcription services. Use SALT software (purchased separately) to compare your narrative with age and grade-matched samples selected from the Narrative Story Retell database.

Can't speak personally with your student? Not a problem!

Share your screen (e.g., Zoom) while "Eric" provides directions, presents the story, then displays the pages again for your student to retell the story. Although an audio recorder is built into this program, when eliciting samples virtually you need to use an alternate recorder, such as your phone or the recorder built into the virtual software.

Bilingual Spanish/English and Monolingual Spanish (for grades K, 1, 2, 3)
Annual single-user subscription with unlimited uses: $79

Elicit Spanish and English narrative stories using Frog, Where Are You? (Mayer, 1969), Frog Goes to Dinner (Mayer, 1974), Frog On His Own (Mayer, 1973), and One Frog Too Many (Mayer & Mayer, 1975). "Eric" (animated character) provides all directions in the target language. For story-retell protocols, the story model is presented and the pages of the story are displayed for the student to retell the story. For unique-story protocols, the student is given the opportunity to look through the pages of the book prior to telling the story. Record and save the student's story. Then either transcribe the sample yourself or send it to SALT's fee-based transcription services. Use SALT software (purchased separately) to compare your narrative with age and grade-matched samples selected from the Bilingual Spanish/English Story Retell, Bilingual Spanish/English Unique Story, or Monolingual Spanish Story Retell database.

¿No hablas español? ¡No problema!

Let "Eric" present the digitized "frog story" and elicit your student's story retell in Spanish or English. "Eric" provides all directions and the story model in the target language.
